In 1929-67, Erte' developed the "Alphabet" theme as a series of paintings, interpreting the 26 letters of the alphabet with stylized, human forms. In 1976-77, he utilized this theme to create a series of mixed media lithographs with serigraphy. He transformed each letter of his "Alphabet" into a "Work of Art to Wear" jewelry in 1987.
